Flos and B&B Italia win XXVII Compasso d’Oro ADI
Design Holding is proud to announce that Belt by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Flos and SERIE UP by Gaetano for B&B Italia have been awarded with the prestigious Compasso d'Oro ADI Award, the most highly esteemed Italian industrial design awards.
Belt by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Flos wins the Compasso d'Oro ADI.
The refined sinuous modular lighting system designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and produced by Flos Architectural in 2020, has won the oldest, most prestigious international design award which has reached its twenty-seventh edition.
Belt is an innovative modular architectural lighting system that sees the light source housed in long refined artisan-crafted leather elements. The soft sections, which act as power supply and connecting elements, lend each module its characteristic sinuous shape, recalling the fluidity and lightness of a belt and hence its name.
It represents Flos’ perfect fusion of innovation, lighting performance, human-centered design, elegance of form and refined craftsmanship.
The international jury awarded Belt with the esteemed Compasso d’Oro award as “an original lighting system composed of leather and leds, with a fascinating environmental dimension”.
SERIE UP by Gaetano Pesce wins XXVII Compasso d’Oro ADI Product Career Award 2022.
B&B Italia proudly announces winning the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI - Product Career Award 2022, awarded to the SERIE UP designed in 1969 by Gaetano Pesce.
A famous icon of international contemporary design, the SERIE UP is awarded the important prize, the most significant in the field of Italian industrial design, with the following accolade from the international jury: “The perfect synthesis of technological experimentation and formal research, the UP armchair designed by Gaetano Pesce is a poetic witness to the complex relationship between the female figure and different socio-cultural contexts and at the same time a product which has always represented a vision of civic commitment to design”.
Gaetano Pesce comments on the award:
“The 1969 SERIE UP received the Compasso d’Oro. I speak on behalf of these works and I thank them for the honor they have received. In particular, the voice of the UP5_6 stands out for its strong message which unfortunately is still strongly valid even today: in the world, women suffer from prejudice and a certain backwardness of men. B&B Italia had the open-mindedness and the courage to produce and disseminate the first design object with political significance: for this important reason I also thank the industry and the workers who bring it to life. I wish this Compasso d’Oro ceremony the best success”.
